About Us

Origins

Growing up in Southern California with a health-obsessed family, I’ve always been passionate about holistic wellness. As I got older, I found myself drawn to hiking and endurance running—activities that made me more conscious about the materials I was putting on my body. I was frustrated to learn about the toxic forever chemicals (PFAS) used by my favorite activewear brands, which have been linked to reproductive issues and cancer. I also hated how sweaty and smelly these synthetics made me feel, yet I struggled to find practical alternatives.

Discovering Merino

Then I took a trip to New Zealand and learned about an unexpected natural solution: merino wool. Merino is loved by adventurers for its natural moisture-wicking ability, temperature regulation, and odor resistance. I was amazed by how merino could outperform synthetics in pretty much every way, yet I was surprised it was hardly used outside of niche hiking and backpacking circles. I wondered if these same performance benefits could help everyday athletes feel more comfortable while reducing their exposure to toxins.

Teaming Up With Mom

As fate would have it, my mom spent 30 years as a fashion designer and manufacturer, working with major sportswear brands. She had long seen the same problems with traditional activewear but also couldn't find a meaningful solution. When we learned about merino wool together, we agreed we could be onto something huge.

Avala

At Avala, we’re developing the future of non-toxic, high-performance activewear. By using merino wool’s natural sweat-regulating properties, we completely eliminate the need for PFAS and other toxic chemicals. Wearing Avala, you'll feel cleaner, more comfortable, and healthier than ever before. No more being a sweaty mess. No more post-workout stench. No more compromises for your health. Your skin and your boys will thank you.

Carbon-Negative

On top of all of this, Avala is one of the first clothing brands to launch as carbon-negative from day one. This means that for every product we make, we remove more CO₂ from the atmosphere than we emit. With guidance from climate experts, we are taking a scientific and transparent approach to improving our planet through carbon sequestration and renewable energy projects.

The fashion industry is currently responsible for 10% of global emissions, and many companies’ sustainability claims lack transparency. At Avala, we believe businesses should quantifiably improve the planet’s condition. Our mission is to lead the way forward.
