About Us
Hey, Julian here
For most of my life, I have been focused on ways to improve the sustainability of our planet. Co-founding Hydrova, I spent the last 4 years working on frontier research in sustainability innovation. We were awarded grants from some amazing folks at the EPA and MIT, and our work got recognized in Forbes magazine and on national TV. Learning intimately about the climate crisis, I wanted to translate that knowledge into starting a carbon-negative brand. This led me to start Avala.
Carbon-Negative
Avala is one of the first clothing brands to launch as carbon-negative from day one. This means that for every product we make, we remove more CO₂ from the atmosphere than we emit. With guidance from climate experts, we are taking a scientific and transparent approach to improving our planet through carbon sequestration and renewable energy projects.
The fashion industry is currently responsible for 10% of global emissions, and many companies’ sustainability claims lack transparency. At Avala, we believe businesses should quantifiably improve the planet’s condition. Our mission is to lead the way forward.
A Family Business
My mom is a fashion designer who has been been ahead of her time on sustainable fabrics since the 90s. My Dad started his own small business for apparel manufacturing, which he runs with my mom to this day. My one great-grandpa was a tailor, another ran his own garment business, and another worked in the textile mills. At 13 years old, the first business I started was a clothing brand called Marz. It felt like destiny to combine my family's deep-rooted knowledge of garments with my passion for the environment.
